Yes I have done my research and I have been anticipating this day since January, today was iPhone Friday. I and at least 500 of my closest friends have gathered here at Apple store in the Victoria Gardens shooping center in Rancho Cucamonga (you Jack Benny officonados might recall the trio of SoCal towns: Anaheim, Azusa, and Cooo-ca-monga) to get our hands on possibly the most hyped consumer electronics device in history. (And in case you were wondering, I arrived at the mall at 2:50 PM). You may not know all of the iPhone's capabilities, but unless you have been literally living under a rock, it is nearly impossible for you not to have heard of it.
Actually it is pretty amazing when you consider the amount of hype the device has received since - it has now been a little over two hours since the store opened and began selling them this evening and witnessing the reactions of those passing by the store has certainly been a testament to marketing geniuses at Apple who controlled the flow of information to little more than a trickle, teasing potential buyers and the press with just enough information to make them desire that much more. Is this the mobile device to end all mobile devices? Of course not. I may be a fan of Apple products but I am not afraid to admit they're not the only company out there doing innovative things and on top of that there are devices that are more advanced and may even cost the same or less to own - but what makes the iPhone "revolutionary" is not necessarily what it does, but it is the way it does it.
The iPhone is bringing the converged mobile device to the masses. The converged mobile device is the next great frontier and the iPhone is ushering in that era much in the same way the iMac did with the personal computer. As the Internet continues exert greater influence in our lives, converged mobile devices will become that much more commonplace. I cannot say whether they (converged mobile devices) will become as ubiquitous as the personal computer is now, but Apple and a host of other companies are betting that you will feel the need to have one in your pocket very soon.
